Happy New YEAR!
Well, well, well. It is flippin 2007!!! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you all. Before I proceed into my exciting life, I am going to back track a tad. I was just reviewing my blog (which I have had over a year now, I don’t know why that seems worth mentioning) and I found it to be quite funny how in October I dedicated a blog to how I was not in love with my job and that made me happy because I was able to get excited about other things in life and not feel guilty about the thought of leaving the job in the near future. However, after writing that, I found a new part time job that I have had now for 2 months and I actually really like it.!!!!
So let’s take a trip down memory lane and have a moment of silence for all of those weird strange jobs that I have held thus far since returning to Eugene from South America.
1. “You have been accused for having a big heart, is that true?” The line repeated 500 times a day to strangers on the phone trying to get them “locked up” for a good cause for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. I was a temp. I hated it. What more can I say? Be nice to people that call you; tell-a-marketers, donation askers, survey people- whoever it may be. They hate their job and probably feel like an idiot 98% of the day. I was glad to leave.
2. Substitute teacher for Head Start. Yeah I like kids. But really disciplining them all day---emm-- not so much.
3. Mental Health Associate at Options. It had a cool title. BUT—didn’t do it for me. I worked with cool, dedicated people though.
4. Waitress at Mexican restaurante...boss got drunk once during work and yelled at me for not sweeping good enough.. Were they paying me under the table? Yes, did I get cheated out of my tips sometimes –that would be yet another Yes.
The list still continues......My current Jobs
5. Property Management at St. Vincent de Paul. I am nervous about writing so much information about work on the Internet, so I will hold back what I truly want to say. Let’s put it this way......if the office were a family, it would be considered by all definition a dysfunctional one. I would play the role of the silent child, whom you would assume is fine with everything and then ends up running away silently one day and faking an identity to start a new life somewhere far far away.
6. My new job is great!!!!! I work at Centro Latinoamericano in conjunction with the better half of St. Vinnies for a transitional housing program. I am a case manager for 6 Latino families who are in the transitional housing program for 2 years. The families I work with are great! Inspiring people, really. They make my job easy. The program transitions families that used to be homeless to housing through SVdP. I also get my own office, which I have decorated nice a neat. I work for Centro 20 hrs and SVdP 16ish hrs. I have realized how much I love the Spanish language. I mean anyone who knows me knows that I am obsessed with it, but speaking Spanish is an important piece for my mental health, it makes me enjoy life more. If it is part of my daily life, then I am happy. I love working with the Latino population. I feel actually qualified for the position, it fits me like a glove. All for now. BE back soon with pics of my recent USA adventure, fall, and Andryce’s love story.
