Eugenian

Me at the top of Spencers Butte in Eugene

I write this blog entry from Scott's apartment on a sunny sunny Monday morning. We have nothing to do, but play in the sun, cook good food and well yes search for that job thingy! I will admit though, this "living off of unemployment" can be fun a times, well actually only when Eugene gives you a nice sunny day that wipes away all of your worries!

My first 2.5 weeks back here in my new place of new beginings has been great so far. My 2 week temp job with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, where I called people for donations, was such a doozy! I could go on forever about that experience, it was just weird, and being on the phone all day super cheesy really gets to you. I feel like now every time that I am on the phone to whom ever it may be, my voice changes to super cheesy.."Hi how are you....blah balh..". I did meet a lot of people at my job, who I admire for the fact that they live their lives off of temp jobs and that is the basis of their survival, and then there was me, who couldnt cut it for 2 weeks. I have an interview at Head Start in a couple of days and I am hopefull and crossing my fingers. I also had an interivew at a bakery/cafe place and I really would like to work there and be a Barista.....but it was funny, my interview was like this....., "Have you ever had experience with food serivce, making coffee, cash register ect"....and I was like sorry lady, basically my ONLY marketable skill that I posess is that I can speak Spanish.

Andryce came and stayed with me for my first week back here and we had a great time just doing basically Emmy and Andryce things; talking, giggling(both activities done in PJs), hiking and discovering a place here that sells Peruvian brew....Cusquena and Arequipena. We even had a unexpected visitor, Philipp from Germany, for those of you who remember "The Germans".

This is a picture of my little house that is on 24th and Charnelton. It is pretty nice, cute and quiet. It is in the hills and has a great view of the Butte, hills and the city. The neighborhood that I live in is like SWANKY and then there is my house.....which looks like it belongs close to campus ...cuz well it just isn't a mansion like my next door neighboor's home. I live at the bottom of a triplex with two little houses on top of mine. My roommate is Karina, a girl I went to High School with that is the girlfriend of my brother's best friend Cameron. Once I get some pics of us, ill put those up as well. These past couple of days in Eugene have been so nice, that when I woke up this morning, I found out that there are many tulips that were planted in my front yard and they just seemed to have bloomed over night. It is awesome and reminds me of Laras wedding.

Home!

I have officially been home for almost a month now. I mean yeah, it has been interesting. I have enjoyed so far my re-entry into this place called home. No doubt as one can expect it has been quite a change of pace and scenery from what my life was for a year and a half. It is just really challenging to try to keep alive what I lived, and I feel that the more that I become accustomed and re-acculturated the more that I feel my experience is fading in a way. It is sad when things here are not weird anymore, because it is beginning to seem that everything that I lived is so far away and here I am again at home, and life normal and straight. I guess the reality of it all, is that yes, it is far away in South America. From now on it will be a struggle of mine to keep alive what I lived and try to build it into my identity as a North American womyn.

I have spent the last month in Salem, living a "chill" life. I stay indoors most of the time, watching movies and staying out of the rain. I visit people occasionally, but most of the time I am here in my house with my brother Sam, Scott and my parents. This past week was spring break for the people with school, so Salem has been more dead than normal with everyone out of the State going to a hot location. On Monday I will be heading for Eugene for the next 8 weeks to work! Yes I got a small temp job with the Muscular Dystrophy Association helping them out with a fundraiser and it looks as though I will be living with a girl that I went to high school with that is a friend of my brother Patrick, her name is Karina. SO little by little all of the pieces are slowing fitting together. I hope that I will be able to find something more permanent while I am in Eugene, we will see. I am excited for all of these changes.
Here are some photos of the “chill” life that I lead, but I cut my hair I forgot to mention this exciting news tidbit…....short with bangs, it was a impulsive cut, but hey I live on the edge. Oh yeah and my cat is obese, we have to take her to the vet for fatness, poor itchy.
